Jiaozuo is a prefecture-level city in northwest of Henan province. Sitting on the northern bank of the Yellow River, it borders the provincial capital of Zhengzhou to the south. It covers an area of 4071 square kilometers and the population of it is 3.61 million. The total output value of the whole city in 2008 achieved 103.16 billion RMB. Jiaozuo is linked via railway and highway to the nearby cities of Luoyang, Xinxiang, and Jincheng in nearby Shanxi Province.
Jiaozuo is noted for its blast furnaces, machine construction and coal industries. Various industries are developing rapidly in Jiaozuo. It is also one of the three biggest high production grain areas.More than 200 kinds of products such as products of aluminum, tire, fur, ceramic are exported to more than 120 countries including USA, Canada, Japan and Germany, etc.
Recourses are abundant in Jiaozuo city: rich mineral resources including coal, limestone and bauxite, refractory clay, pyrite and other 20 kinds; ample water resources with 23 main rivers and 3.54 billion cubic meters of groundwater.There are also many places of tourists attractions in Jiaozuo including Yun Tai Mountain, Qing Tian River, Qing Long Cape, Shen Nong Mountain etc. In February 2004, Yun Tai Mountain was listed as one of the first UNESCO Geoparks.
