Lying in the northwest of Shanxi province, Shuozhou covers an area of 10,700 square kilometers and the population of 1,544,000.
The civilization in Shuozhou city goes back to Protolithic. The Zhi Yu Ruins demonstrates that there are human beings living in Shuozhou as early as the late Protolithic.
Shuozhou is rich in mineral reserves including coal, limestone, ironstone, alum, mica, clay, graphite etc. The total coal reserves is 50 billion tons, equivalent to one-sixth of the total of Shanxi province.
Land and water resources are also abundant in Shuozhou. There are 484 million mu of cultivated land, which make Shuozhou the area with the most arable land in Shanxi Province. There is 7.9 billion cubic meters groundwater resources (590 cubic meters per capita) and many rivers such as Shanggan River, Huihe River and so on. With the help of these resources, the economy is developing in an all-rounded way.
